This app may retrieve and display content from Wiktionary in a formatted manner for display purposes. Text derived from Wiktionary is licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0 and GFDL. The terms of use of this app do not restrict any uses permitted under those licenses.

Dictionary Data from JMdict / JMnedict

BlueReader uses JMdict and JMnedict data published by the Electronic Dictionary Research and Development Group (EDRDG) for Japanese-English dictionary lookups. The data is attributed to EDRDG and used under CC BY-SA 4.0 in accordance with the EDRDG license. Each dictionary popup result also displays its source and license.

As an operational procedure, check for official data updates at least monthly and regenerate the import SQL from the latest JMdict and JMnedict files with pnpm run dictionary:build-ja-en. After review, apply the updated data to staging with pnpm run dictionary:import-ja-en:staging, then deploy it to production after verification.

For local development, place the official JMdict_e.gz and JMnedict.xml.gz files in .local/dictionary/, run pnpm run db:migrate:sqlite:local, then run pnpm run dictionary:build-ja-en and pnpm run dictionary:import-ja-en:local.
